Inch Worm

If I had to measure a lot of things,
I'd probably want some inch worms,
Because a lot of things can be expressed in inches
And a ruler's more fun when it squirms.

If I were to measure the distance
From the Earth to the sun,
I'd need 5,889,679,950,528 inch worms,
(Give or take 235 and one)

If I were to measure the marigolds,
My arithmetic going quite far,
I'd probably need significantly less
Than measuring from here to our star.

But if I were to measure the quantity of love
That I feel for my wife,
I'd need inch worms and nutbrown hares and other units of measurement,
And would be gathering them for the rest of my life.
